Overview of Our School
Las Brisas (i.e. Spanish for "the breezes") is a K-6 elementary school located in a fast growing community in Northwest Phoenix. Our campus features an indoor facility, where students can move about within one building. Each classroom features a Smartboard and document camera, and technology is infused into daily lessons. Students have access to Chromebooks and iPads to support learning. The student body is known as "the stars" and classrooms are arranged in pods. The school was constructed during the Phoenix Suns NBA national championship playoff season, thus school colors are the same as the Suns: purple and orange.
We are a PBIS school. Click here to find our more about PBIS. We focus on reinforcing positive behaviors, and recognizing the positive attributes of each student. In doing so, students earn STAR tickets. These tickets are collected weekly, and winners from each grade level are selected. They earn prizes and recognition because of their choices.
The educational program features intensive staff development in teaching with a child centered focus. Teachers are engaged in the PLC process, which utilizes a systems approach to continuous classroom improvement. In the PLC process, teachers identify focused learning targets, common understanding of learning outcomes, and common assessments to determine if the student has learned the essential information. Teachers use this information to remediate or extend according to the needs of each student. This ensures that students are gaining the required learning to prepare them for success as they continue their educational endeavors.
Parents at Las Brisas are encouraged to become involved in their child's learning. This can be achieved by participating in the Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA), and maintining close contact with teachers. Regular activities occur throughout the school year, including carnivals, bingo, and concerts, which offer parents the opportunity to be involved in the school. Furthermore, we welcome parent volunteers. (All volunteers must be DVUSD volunteer trained.) Teachers also provide frequent updates to parents, in addition to report cards, and parent teacher conferences. Teachers maintain websites with important information, and Powerschools offers round the clock updates about grades and assignments.
We strive to foster positive relationships with our students and families, and look forward to another fabulous year working together so that our stars can shine bright.
